Family sessions can be photographed either in my beautiful studio in Fyshwick or outdoors at one of Canberra’s stunning natural locations, allowing us to create portraits that truly reflect your family’s personality and connection.
Outdoor sessions are relaxed and natural, with beautiful light and space for children to play and interact comfortably, while studio sessions offer a timeless and elegant feel with full control over styling and lighting.
To help create a cohesive and luxurious look for your portraits, I recommend:
- Soft, neutral or earthy tones
- Comfortable clothing that reflects your family’s style
- Avoiding large logos or busy patterns
- Flat-footed shoes for outdoor locations
My sessions are designed to feel relaxed, enjoyable and genuinely connected — creating not only beautiful portraits, but a memorable experience together as a family.
For those meeting me for the first time, I’m Mel from A Shot Above the Rest Photography, an award-winning portrait and wedding photographer who has had the privilege of photographing Canberra families for many years. My passion is creating timeless artwork that celebrates the people you love most.
Once your portraits are ready, you’ll be invited to a private in-person Photo Reveal and Ordering Appointment at my studio in Fyshwick. This is a very special part of the experience where you’ll view your images for the first time and I’ll guide you through selecting your favourite portraits and artwork for your home.
