Did anyone hear the thunder or see the lightning around 1:30pm yesterday in Yass, NSW? We did, and it was exactly one hour before guests were meant to begin arriving for their beautiful at home wedding, on Tara’s family property. It poured, and thumped in, dismantling temporary gazebos, and dumped so much rain in the hour that followed. But you wouldn’t believe it – it stopped, about 10 minutes before the ceremony began – it just stopped. (Almost like someone was watching down over their home.)
The sun came out and Michelle ( @Shellebrant ) performed a beautiful ceremony for Matt and Tara, in front of their family and friends, much to everyone’s dismay – the clouds rolled in again – as they were signing the marriage certificate. It was something you couldn’t believe unless you were there. We had a list of 13 or so family portraits to cut through, and we managed it with the black cloud rolling up fast! as I grabbed the very last one, drops began to fall on my camera lens.
With that, we made a run for it! Ran to the first location and the storm hit – The rain came down so hard, we took shelter at the Yass Railway Museum. and then on to the Clubhouse Hotel, Yass. Absolutely blown away with the hospitality of these two locations – both had no issues with us turning up in the downpour and allowing us to capture these images. It helps of course that my second shooter Trent, actually LIVED there for many years, and knew who to ask and where to head when the weather threw all carefully organised plans out the storm front window! As the speeches were rolling around and the cake was being cut, you wouldn’t believe it the rain stopped, and the sunset was spectacular. Not sure who or what was looking out for Matt and Tara, but I’m just going to put a massive thank you out there – into the cosmos!
The gorgeous staff at the railway – many, many thanks for coming and opening up for us! Trent Hubber, incredible thanks – what a gem! Can’t wait to see your images also.
