David and Miss J are Married, Brisbane 13th March, 2022
So when my cousin David decided to get hitched in Brisbane, post covid – after lockdown, in the middle of the worst flood in a bazillion years, AND on a Sunday ( when I already had a Saturday wedding booked)….. how could I not do everything to be there? He says, ‘it’s nothing over the top, it’s just a simple ceremony, (just at the Registry office), and if you’d like to come along, we’d love to see you.’ So off I went to the airport – last flight out, and I made it in time – to see the most relaxed chilled couple tie the knot. No Bridesmaids, no groomsmen, no pomp and ceremony, the bare bones, and it was incredible. I was expecting a dark and boring room, a certificate & some witnesses, but no, the registry office, IS FAR from a boring dark room. They said their beautiful vows in front of their nearest and dearest family (and my beautiful cousins – who it was amazing to catch up with) and a few very close friends. (we almost didn’t make the crazy 15 minute opening and QLD check in process, because our uber decided to TAKE for EVER!).
They celebrated well into the night, at Lala Land, where they had a second, ceremony for their friends and family, and just as quickly as I arrived, I was gone again the very next day – back to Canberra. Head spinning from the last 24 hour whirlwind visit. (next time will be longer I promise!).
